Winter/Spring News from the Argyle Care
Group
Aughton Grange Care Home
Mini-bus trips now take place twice a
week and we encourage all of our residents to take part in these outings. Our driver has extensive knowledge of the
area and he is accompanied by at least one Carer.
Aughton Grange’s Christmas party took
place in mid-December and was very well supported by relatives and
friends. It is always good to see our
Residents’ reaction to live music/singing which was provided by our regular
singer and his wife. Relatives/friends
are always welcome to join us when Bill and Netta are at Aughton once a month –
dates are on the notice board.
The Manager of Aughton Grange, George
Gilmore, has just retired. We wish him
well in his retirement, a lot of which will be spent DIY’ing in the house he
recently bought in Ireland! Our Group
Care Manager, Joy Hunter, who used to be the Manager at Aughton, has taken over
the position.
We have just employed a new gardener at
Aughton who will be clearing the garden over the next couple of months and then
maintaining it once a week. We are
hoping for a better summer than last year so our residents and families can use
the garden and the summer house a lot more.
We are pleased to welcome back to the
Argyle Group an RGN who worked for us for many years at Cherryfield Care
Home. Sadie has joined Aughton Grange
as a Nurse in Charge on days and we are confident our residents will benefit
greatly from her presence there.
The Bentley Care Home
The Home Manager and some of the Bentley
Carers took six residents for a holiday in Blackpool for five days shortly
before Christmas. They stayed in a
hotel just short of Blackpool’s seafront and had evening entertainment there
every night – aswell as very good meals!!
The Proprietor of the Argyle Care Group joined them for a night, so he
could see first hand the success of the stay. It is hoped to repeat the holiday
at least once this year.
Bentley’s chickens continue to thrive -
despite the very cold nights we’ve had over the winter, they were “snug and
warm” in their coop!
With Spring, hopefully, on its way,
plans are being made towards Bentley’s vegetable growing this year. It is hoped to increase the amount of
vegetables grown and the varieties.
Two of our recent mini-bus outings from
the Bentley were made to the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, and the Roman
Catholic Cathedral the following week, which our residents found very
interesting. Frequent trips are still
being made to Southport as some of the residents have a particular fish and
chip restaurant they enjoy going to!
Fairhaven Care Home
Fairhaven’s day care facility continues
to be popular. We are able to collect,
and take home, clients so they can spend a day at Fairhaven, joining in
whatever activities/mini bus outings there are on that day, enjoying
Fairhaven’s three-course lunches and having the company of our residents –
especially important for someone who lives alone. Please contact Fairhaven’s Manager for further
details of our day care programme.
The Friday club nights continue to be
enjoyed by all the residents. A varied
programme of activities is provided as can be seen by the updated photos in
Fairhaven’s hallway.
Now that the weather is improving,
mini-bus trips are back to their regular routine which the residents are
pleased about. Roll on ice-cream cone
weather!!!
Redcourt Care Home
Redcourt’s gardens continue to flourish
and improve. We will be putting some
garden benches in the outside garden for the summer. A Remembrance Garden is going to be made in
the garden on the right hand side as you enter the car park area.
Redcourt’s Manager is currently working
on a Post Graduate course in Dementia Studies.
Continuing and skilled knowledge of this subject will enable us to deliver
the appropriate dementia care which we have already been recognised for with
Redcourt’s Excellent status, given to us by the Inspection Authorities.
Redcourt had a busy Christmas, with
various choirs of carol singers coming into the Home to perform and a very good
residents’ Christmas party at which many families joined us.
Our Activities Co-ordinator continues to
entertain and motivate our residents with many different games, quizzes,
crafts, picture drawing (as can be seen on Redcourt’s corridor walls), musical
appreciation, etc. He tries to involve
as many people in these activities as possible to maintain mental stimulation,
a subject we take very seriously in our care homes.
We have a regular singer and his wife at
Redcourt every four weeks and an organist/singer in the weeks inbetween -
relatives and friends are most welcome to join us on these afternoons – dates
are posted on the Relatives Board.
